Exercising / Sports with an ostomy
Post-Surgery
Initially, post-surgery exercise is encouraged, like walking and Kegels, to help strengthen your core.
Lifting items > 5lbs needs to be avoided for the first 6-8 weeks; this includes children, pets, laundry, mowing the lawn, etc.
After eight weeks, it is suggested you start an exercise program and slowly increase your ability.
We encourage an appointment with a physiotherapist specializing in ostomy and hernia prevention.
